✉️ A Letter from the Founder: What Drives Afropop Socks By Isaac Prempeh
Share
Dear Afropop Family,
I started Afropop Socks at my kitchen table, with a few sketches, a strong cup of tea, and a head full of memories. Memories of the vibrant textiles my mother brought back from Ghana. Memories of being surrounded by colour, culture, and stories that didn’t often show up on the shelves of high street stores.
I didn’t set out to create just a sock brand.
I wanted to build something that meant something, something that honoured where I came from and spoke to where we’re going.
👣 Why Socks?
Because socks are often overlooked. Quiet. Hidden.
But they’re also the first thing you put on in the morning. They move with you through your day. They’re the most intimate piece of clothing, and I saw an opportunity to turn them into something powerful.
Socks became my canvas. A place to remix traditional African patterns, symbols, and stories into modern design. A place to spark pride, conversation, and curiosity, without saying a word.
🌍 Our Mission Is Personal
Afropop Socks exists to:
-
Celebrate African culture in all its vibrancy and variety
-
Create products that are ethical, joyful, and long-lasting
-
Give people a way to wear their identity with pride, or discover new cultures with respect
-
Inspire the next generation of creatives to take up space, unapologetically
This isn’t about trends. It’s about legacy. It’s about walking boldly in who you are, and where you come from.
✊🏽 More Than Just a Brand
Over the years, we’ve grown from a one-man operation to a global community, from packing boxes in my flat to being stocked in over 500 stores, including Selfridges, the Tate Modern, the British Museum, and the Smithsonian in the U.S.
But no matter how far we go, our core remains the same:
Afropop Socks is a love letter to culture. A celebration of difference. A movement of bold steps.
🎁 What You Wear Matters
When you choose Afropop Socks, you’re not just buying fashion.
You’re choosing to support:
-
Ethically made products
-
Small-batch design
-
Meaningful storytelling
-
Culture with purpose
You're helping us create internships, support youth-led design, and build a brand that’s rooted in community as much as creativity.
🙏🏽 Thank You
To everyone who’s bought a pair, gifted a set, shared our story, or simply worn our socks with pride, thank you. You’re not just supporting a business. You’re fueling a mission.
And to those just discovering us:
Welcome. We’re glad you’re here.
Let’s keep walking boldly, together.
With gratitude,
Isaac Prempeh
